On June 11, the University Interscholastic League passed an amendment to add split divisions in the postseason for volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball and baseball. This change went into effect on Aug. 1, and its effects were first seen with volleyball playoffs.

Unlike football, all other UIL athletics are not split into Division I and Division II, and teams are simply placed in the appropriate conference. However, the 6A conference in football is not split into divisions. This new amendment follows the same structure as the playoff format used for 6A football, which splits teams into divisions and creates two state championship brackets in each conference.

The top four teams from each district still advance to the postseason. The two advancing schools with the largest enrollments are bracketed into Division I and the other two schools are bracketed into Division II. In the case of 5A District 24, Anderson and McCallum are bracketed into Division I while LASA and Ann Richards are in Division II. UIL uses the enrollment numbers schools previously submitted in October 2023, which were originally used for the 2024-26 realignment process.

After being bracketed into their respective divisions, teams are then seeded based on how they placed in district. For example, LASA was given a No. 1 seed in Division 2 for placing third in district and Ann Richards was given No. 2 seed in Division 2 for a fourth-place finish. The rest of the playoff structure is the same, and teams still play the opposite seed from the district adjacent to them.

For McCallum volleyball, who was given a No. 2 seed for their second place district finish, they are slated to play the No. 1 Division I seed from District 23, which this year are the Hendrickson Hawks, who finished third in the district. The two teams are closely ranked, with McCallum being ranked 88th in 5A and Hendrickson 89th. Against common opponents, McCallum is 11-5 and Hendrickson 9-4. The Knights swept the Hawks in Pflugerville Tournament play on Aug. 23 in two tightly contested sets, 26-24, 25-22.
