In 2017, New York City named a tunnel-boring machine after Nora Stanton Barney, in recognition of her work on the city’s first reservoir and aqueduct in the Catskill Mountains. She was born #OTD in 1883, and was the first woman in the U.S. to earn a civil engineering degree.
