It's an exciting day for the universe! Scientists from the Event Horizon Telescope released the first-ever image of a black hole's event horizon, the point at which light can no longer escape the black hole's gravitational pull. Using linked telescopes from around the globe, EHT's team measured the ring of photons circling the black hole at the center of galaxy Messier 87, 55 million light-years from Earth.
