In addition to being an astronaut, a physician, and the first African-American woman in space, Mae Jemison, whose birthday we celebrate today, is a trained dancer. She brought a poster from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater into space. In a letter to the theater, she wrote, "Many people do not see a connection between science and dance, but I consider them both to be expressions of the boundless creativity that people have to share with one another." 🌌🌠
