This #ancient Incan settlement, often thought to be a summer residence, was visited by few after #Spanish invaders decimated the #Incas. But on this date in 1911, the American archeologist Hiram Bingham was led to the steps of Machu Picchu by local peasants—and the #world soon rediscovered this marvel.
