## Caption

Many #mollusks sport a lovely shimmer on the inside of their #shells from nacre, an iridescent substance made primarily from aragonite (a form of #calcium carbonate). Scientists have made a cheap, efficient recipe for synthetic nacre that could one day be widely used as a #heat shield for everything from cars to #aircraft to sensitive #electronics.
