Alyssa Sayegh ‘23 has been a Biomedical Science major since her freshman year, and is glad that she has stuck with it. Even though the major is notoriously difficult, she always had it as a part of her plan.

“I came into Marist as a Biomedical Sciences major; I always knew I wanted to apply to medical schools, that was always the plan. Then during my sophomore year I took on the Psychology minor.”

Alyssa is currently a part-time student here at Marist, and in the time that she is not in class, she is working at an urgent care center. Working there as a medical assistant is giving her experience before she graduates. Alyssa will be applying to medical schools in June, when the application process begins, and is looking for somewhere close to her home in Westchester.

In the meantime, she is busy as the President of the Delta Epsilon MU chapter at Marist, a co-ed fraternity for those with interest in medical fields. She has been in the fraternity since the first semester of her freshman year.

“I became President this year, but before that I was working as the fundraising chair. We focus on like minded people, so obviously it’s a very difficult major, so it’s kind of nice to have that support group. We bring in a bunch of speakers to help expose people to careers in healthcare, and we also have workshops for professional development, things like that.”

The senior recommends this fraternity to anyone in the Biomedical Sciences or healthcare fields that are looking for a support group and ways to make connections.
