I have been struggling with this for years. I didn’t know post travel depression was real, meaning that I also wasn’t prepared. And this last for years. Even though I’d go on trips every so often, I would forget about the sadness but every time I came back home, the feeling just neverrr went away.

Last week, I went to go visit my boyfriend and 2 days within the trip, one of his family members had passed away. As a death tradition, the community comes together and mourns for 9 days straight. So we, his family, and community mourned and grieved for 9 days — together. It was a hard week for his family, but I knew that He was with us.

Coming back home felt like I closed this chapter in my life, and that better days are coming — fast. I don’t have the right words to fully describe what this feeling is, but it’s liberating.

Post travel IS a real thing and there is NO right order to get over it. It’s easy to compare and ask why it’s taking you longer to get over it than others, but know that comparison is a thief to your happiness. Better days are coming — you just gotta keep looking up. Never stop fighting the good fight and I promise there’s light at the end of the tunnel. You got this 💪
