“We joined Hope in 1992-93 when Hope was worshiping in the Church of the Land at Living History Farms. The membership was less than 100 people at that time. We had lived in Des Moines for a little more than a year and had been visiting various churches but hadn’t settled in anywhere. As an architect, Kevin designed the first church home for Hope at 6820 Ashworth, and we decided to finally act on Pastor Mike’s invitations to be an active part of the Hope community. We are certainly thankful we did, as our Hope journey has been a blessing to our lives.

We have found that the more engaged you are in the life of the church, the more connected you are, and the closer to God you become. Beth served on the first Hope Council, co-led the initial Children’s Ministry program, and served as a board member and president of New Horizons Preschool (now Hope Preschool). Kevin has continued to lead the designs of Hope projects in West Des Moines, Grimes and Ankeny as Hope has grown, and has served on vision committees and the worship team.

We brought our first son, Ben, home from Korea in 1997 in an amazing God-filled experience, and a little over a year later, we were blessed with twin boys, Sam and Tom. As many Hope families can attest, getting immersed as a young family at Hope has been a meaningful, essential and “rooting” experience. We participated as a family in various roles in the Christmas services for 15 years through skits, music, and our boys were shepherds in the nativity scene. These remain some of our best memories and God-filled experiences as a family.

In all these 30 years, it’s been a great blessing to witness the amazing things God has done through Hope. As Kevin’s MS has progressed, we have become less active as we once were, but still dedicated to the important role Hope has as a mission church focused on God’s purpose. Sam is now an architect as well, and Kevin and Sam are currently working together to help envision Hope Ames, the Hope Grimes addition, and the various upcoming projects in West Des Moines. We look forward as a family to see God continue to do amazing things for generations to come through Hope.”
