"A recent analysis by propublica reveals that since the age of juvenile jurisdiction was lowered, nearly 70% of the 17-year-olds arrested in Louisiana’s three largest parishes are accused of nonviolent offenses. This means a significant number of young people —many of them high school students — are being sent to adult jails and getting adult convictions for normal teenage misbehavior like property damage, trespassing, fighting, and theft."

During last month's Juvenile Justice Reform Act Implementation Commission (JJRAIC) meeting, our ED kristenarome addressed attendees on who LCCR is, the work that we do, a brief timeline on the #RaisetheAge legislation, how anecdotal fearmongering and a lack of data has led #Louisiana to be the first state to pass and repeal this type of #youthjustice reform leading to its swift inefficacy.

The JJRAIC was created by Act 1225 in 2003. This commission is responsible for
overseeing the implementation of the recommendations that reform the state's juvenile legal system using a holistic model of support and care. The JJRAIC also monitors the well-being of system-involved youth during public health emergencies. 📸: sentir.con.ojos
