Chicago Marathon Race Recap, Part 13:

I was lost in the work that is the last 6 miles of a marathon. I could hear so many cheers, yet I was still dialed in to the task at hand. 

I knew at that point that a PR was no longer in the cards, but that wasn’t going to stop me from fighting for every second, every place.

🕴🏻🗯️First American is a minute and a half ahead of you Bates!

💭Oh man, that’s not too far, we can do this!

Just a moment after Joe told me where the first American was, emmacoburn and graciecoburn also shouted: 

👸🏼👸🏼🗯️There is an American close behind you! Let’s go Bates!

💭Ahhh ok we REALLY need to do this!

As I was desperately trying to pick up my stride, I could feel my glute and hamstring tighten BAD. I still had mgcentro ahead of me but he was pulling further and further away.

💭Nooo, Matt, come back!
