Please join us in congratulating John Patrick Groarke L'88 who recently received the Distinguished Presidential Rank Award for his work as one of America's most senior diplomats and the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Medal from the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for his work with the Department of Defense! A member of the United States Senior Foreign Service with the Rank of Career Minister, John is responsible for leading a staff of almost 1,000 foreign service officers and other professionals from 22 U.S. government agencies in Southern Africa. 

Previously, John was Mission Director for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Pakistan where he led a $2.5 billion program promoting Pakistan’s development and the reconstruction of its conflict-affected border with Afghanistan. He has also served as Mission Director for USAID in Haiti, Morocco, Egypt, and Iraq, and held other diplomatic positions in Afghanistan, Senegal, and Bangladesh.
