Survivors of human trafficking are often seen as criminals in the eyes of the legal system instead of the former victim of a horrific crime. According to the 2022 Trafficking in Persons Report, only 17 U.S. states have laws that prohibit the prosecution of child sex trafficking victims for unlawful acts traffickers compelled them to commit, and only 32 states formally recognized all child sex trafficking victims as such. Survivors are often left with criminal records due to being forced to engage in illegal activity.

When survivors carry a criminal record, their ability to obtain employment, housing, education, benefits, and financial assistance is much more difficult. The Dressember Network provides pro bono assistance from six national law firms in the U.S. to help screen survivors, analyze criminal records, create a strategy for clearing eligible offenses, and expand access to criminal record relief.

When you give to Dressember, you help survivors receive criminal record relief from offenses they have been forced to commit. Donate at the link in our bio to help survivors reach the future they deserve. #Dressember #Dressember2022 #humantrafficking
