We’ve got guys not playing week in and week out, but they’ve proven to be capable of playing in those types of environments,” he told The Athletic. “So I’m not anticipating a phone call [from Mauricio Pochettino] by any means.” “I’m not the first keeper to be playing at 40. There are tons of guys before me that have played in their 40s in the Premier League, Bundesliga, and World Cups.” “No offense to MLS but those guys are playing at a World Cup.” “If all of a sudden I’m playing in ‘26 then we can have this conversation [about playing well at 40].” “But I hope that’s not the case [getting called back to USMNT]. It’s not a joking matter, but in my eyes, it is.” Guzan put in amazing performances in MLS playoffs, helping Atlanta United knock out Inter Miami that featured Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. At 40, he played 36 games in MLS this season, barely missing a game. That has led to some fans wanting to see him back with the USMNT. Current USMNT keeper Matt Turner also praised Guzan, saying he’s happy for the veteran keeper and he hopes to also make it to his 40s as a player. Guzan and Turner spent some time together in the 2021 Gold Cup, which the USMNT won. That was the last time Guzan was with the USMNT. He played a total of 64 games for them from 2006 to 2021.
