In February 2023, Spencer Knight took an important step in his journey by entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program to seek help managing his struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

“I used the NHL assistance program to an extent and they put me in touch with the right people,” Knight shared. “I think they are tremendous for the game, and it’s something people need to use because they are there to help you. I can’t thank them enough.”

The NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program offers voluntary support to players and their families dealing with mental health, substance abuse, sleep issues, gambling addiction, and other challenges.

“Asking for help is something that takes a lot of courage,” Knight said. “It’s a great initiative. Some people may see it as a sign of weakness, but I think it is a sign of strength. That’s why it’s also important for friends and family to check in on their loved ones. Sometimes that can give them the personal courage to get better.”

We’re so glad to see you on the ice this season, Spencer! Thank you for inspiring others with your vulnerability, strength, and mental health advocacy 💚
