A lingering atmospheric river fueled downpours that produced flooding in San Francisco and across the Bay Area on Friday.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for San Francisco on Friday, in effect until 3:45 p.m., cautioning that this is a life-threatening situation.

Current forecasts report that up to 5 inches of rain could fall by the end of the day. This is slightly under the threshold of a 100-year storm, an extreme level of rain for the city that brings widespread flooding.
