The only person to ever swim faster in the 500 Free is French star Leon Marchand, who won 4 Olympic gold medals in Paris. Maurer broke the US record at the 2024 Longhorn Elite Invite in Austin, TX. As a senior for LoyolaSwim in May of 2023, Maurer set what was then the national record at the CIF-SS Division I Finals (4:12.70).
