Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a very important part of Volleyball BC and something that is a big part of our new Strategic Plan.

We’re excited to partner once again with ubckin for their Interculturalism, Health and Physical Activity course. Under our DEI strategy, the students focused on ‘Support Communities’ and ‘Remove Barriers’.

We wanted to understand ways in which as an organization, we can be more inclusive and accessible to diverse populations. The students examined the following:

Accessibility, Indigenous Participaction, Sitting Volleyball and Newcomers.

VBC’s DEI Vision is to empower our community to remove barriers to participation and to be welcoming to all participants.

Under this vision we have four areas of focus:
Increase Capacity, Supportive Pathways, Support Communities and Remove Barriers.

The two areas we want this project to further help us are to Support Communities and Remove Barriers.

There’s some important topis we’d like to cover and understand:

-Are VBC Events accessible to all populations? (Venue location, transportation, parking, seating, interpreting services, assistive listening devices etc.)

-How to increase Indigenous Participation? 

-How to increase access and exposure to Sitting Volleyball? 

-How to welcome newcomers into our existing programs, tournaments, leagues..etc? 

-Plan of action, Recommendations, Resources Communications, and focused education campaigns around inclusivity and accessibility in Volleyball.

-What are other Sports provincially/nationally doing in this area how we can work with them?
