The Knights lost the Austin High Maroons, 56-47, at home on Friday night. The Knights kept the game close, but the Maroons took the win.

During the first half, the Knights felt confident but respected their opponent. The Knights defense was tough, but the Maroons offense kept them on their toes.

Sophomore Victor Saenz said that the team went in tough but the Maroons started to build a lead in the first half.

“We started strong, especially defensively but as the game went on we just kept making preventable mistakes and it cost us,” Saenz said, “but still as a team I felt we gave 100% effort no matter the score.”

Going into halftime, the team made adjustments hoping to turn the game around.

“We as a team collectively agreed that we needed to pick things up, especially our energy,” Saenz said.

The Knights brought that renewed energy to the floor to start the third quarter. During the second half, the Knights kept the game close, but Austin High remained in the lead.

As a result, the JV Knights lost their first game of the season. After losing again on Monday at home, this time to Manor Tech 45-30, the JV Knights take the court again on Tuesday after the break when they play LBJ at 6:30 p.m. at Burger Center.
