Color-on-color uniform matchups, now a rarity, were once rather common in college football. Auburn and Alabama played in nine such games between 1950 and 1963. The Tigers would come away with a 5-4 record in these games.⁣

The 1950 meeting saw Auburn sporting a unique two-toned pant look, with the front side appearing to be orange and the back-half tan colored. Auburn would also wear two helmets - as was common at that time - to designate positions. Orange helmets were worn by the QB, RBs, and WRs while the offensive line and defense wore navy.⁣
⁣
In 1953, the Tigers would wear orange jerseys against Alabama’s crimson, creating a bright uniform matchup with a lack of necessary contrast. That would be the only time that Auburn wore orange jerseys against Alabama since the series resumed in 1948.⁣
⁣
The Iron Bowl was a navy-vs-crimson matchup for eight seasons during the 13-year stretch. Auburn would win the final of these games in 1963 by a 10-7 score.⁣
