“I ran the United NYC Half 7 months after major surgery and on chemotherapy. It wasn't my fastest [race], but my greatest."
 
Dolores Doman started running in her 40s with the Super Runners store in Huntington, New York. That’s where she met the owner Gary Muhrcke, who won the first New York City Marathon in 1970. He encouraged her to join NYRR and run races in Central Park.
 
“Right away I was inspired by the level of competition, the beauty of Central Park, and how well managed the races were. The volunteers and [staff] are so helpful and respectful of each runner.”
 
In her late 50s, Dolores ran many NYRR races, including 6️⃣ New York City Marathons, placing competitively in her age group and even getting nominated for an age group award. 
 
Last year at age 66, while training for the #TCSNYCMarathon, Dolores was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent surgery to treat the cancerous tumors. As she was recovering from the procedure, she was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer but was still able to run the #UnitedNYCHalf just seven months after surgery and while on chemotherapy.
 
“I ran in mid pack with runners around me of all ages. The support on the course from the runners and NYRR was immensely helpful for me to accomplish the race.”🫶
 
Dolores hopes to run the #RBCBrooklynHalf in the spring despite her ongoing battle with cancer, and said if she does run, her oncologist will be there to cheer her on.🥳🎉
