It's time for our trombone #SectionSpotlight!

Omer Khan is a junior studying Mechanical Engineering with a Spanish minor. This season is his second as a rank leader. "Being a leader in the MMB has taught me to have more confidence in myself and my ability to connect with others. I have to put the best version of myself out every day, and I constantly am surprising myself with how much I know and how I'm using that to help other people learn."

Garrett Kracht is a senior studying English and German with a minor in Music. This season is his second year as a rank leader. "Developing relationships with people in your section both inside and outside of band is incredibly important. Just like your marching skills, they need to be developed and cultivated to be most effective as a leader."

Aryn Nester is a senior studying Trombone Performance through the School of Music Theatre & Dance. This season marks her second season as the trombone section leader and her third season as a trombone rank leader. "Being a leader has taught me that it's not about me, it's about us. As a 400+ member ensemble, the Michigan Marching Band has always been a group effort in all facets. As a student leader, my job has been to enhance the work ethic and talent of my peers, and make sure that our performances are something that we can all look back on and be proud of. Even though I do focus on the quality of the section and the band as a whole, I also strive to make sure that everyone is enjoying themselves and having a great time as well."

Elise Kanefsky is a senior double majoring in PitE (Program in the Environment) and French. This season marks her first year as a rank leader. "The bones are my second family. I have never met a group of people so willing to support each other and lend a helping hand. We all care about each other so much and they have made my college experience unforgettable. I have so many cherished memories with the bones and I know we will continue making memories long after college."

Sukhpreet Singh is a senior studying Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Music. This season marks his second season as a rank leader. "Being a leader in the MMB has taught me the value of my words and actions. As a leader, I have the responsibility to positively influence those around me so that they may find success. The way I carry myself, interact with others, and speak all contribute to creating an environment in which others can thrive."

Noah Holdridge is a senior studying Electrical Engineering. This season is his first season as a trombone rank leader. "Being a leader in the MMB has taught me the importance of effective communication and how it can be achieved in various methods and styles. Learning to adapt my communication style based on my audience has been pivotal, not only benefitting my role within the MMB but also my personal and professional development."
