People are always telling me how I can “save time” by having someone else edit my videos, hiring someone to write my newsletters, finding a videographer to film all my content. And I’ve thought about it, even tried a couple of these things. But, in the end, I always come back to doing them things myself. First of all, I like creating my videos. I like standing back knowing, “I made that!” And I also don’t think anyone, not even a very smart robot, could replicate my writing. In fact, I can categorically say I will NEVER EVER hire anyone to write ANYTHING. Of all the things I do, my writing is the biggest window into my soul. To hire someone to do that would be a complete erasure of me.

I’m not saying that one day, I won’t be forced to delegate some of the other things I do, but for now, I enjoy learning the craft. Knowing that I CAN create something beautiful, all on my own. I don’t think shortcuts can facilitate that kind of confidence, or, if it does—well, that’s not the kind of “confidence I desire. Yes, these videos and the stories I write for them can take a lot longer for me to make—I can spend days to just make one of them. But it’s precisely because of the time I take to create them that I can be confident that what I create is making me a better artist. Wow. I called myself an “artist”! My husband would be proud!

Roberto, too, is an artist in the kitchen. Within those four walls, he feels powerful, sure of himself, at ease. And I think we all deserve to find a space where we feel exactly those things.

Even if it takes a lot of time.
