Today, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (usfws) announced a proposed rule to list the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This decision underscores the critical need for continued monitoring and proactive conservation to reverse the species' decline. While official protections under the ESA will take effect a year after the final ruling, the time to act is now.
Recognizing this urgency, Butterfly Pavilion has received a prestigious grant from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to lead a groundbreaking conservation initiative.
