'Twas the night before Thanksgiving…

And I looked at the weather forecast for the next morning - 40 degrees and consistent rain. 

I shoot my brother a text: “SUFFERING IS SACRED” 

As a West Point Grad, Purple Heart Recipient and State Department Foreign Service Officer, no one knows this better than my brother.

It is one of the reasons I asked him to run a 10K with me on Thanksgiving morning. 

If you want satisfaction, you gotta suffer. It’s in our DNA. 

So my brother and I show up early the next morning, with smiles on our faces, ready to run. And run hard. Together. No headphones. No music. Just each other. 

I knew as a 5K kinda girl, I would struggle from mile 4-6. My legs would be screaming at me to stop. 

And sure enough, after 4 miles of pleasant life discussion, I could no longer talk. I had to focus on the next step in front of me. And the next. And so we did.
 
With about 800 meters to go, my brother takes off for the finish. I work to keep up, using his long stride as inspiration to push through the pain. 

I cross the finish line 30 seconds behind him and we immediately find one another to hug and take a photo. We did it. An accomplishment earned through soaked clothes and suffering. 

It was so damn satisfying. 

Let this be your reminder that a life well lived consists of doing hard shit with good people.
