#AlumniSpotlight Congratulations to Valeriia Tolkacheva for being awarded a Merit Award in Graduate Design! 

Valeriia is a landscape designer based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) and a second Masters in Urban Design from our FIU Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design. Her MLA graduate thesis project, “The Costly Truth About Lawns,” was selected as one of the recipients at the World Landscape Architecture Awards, being recognized among universities across the globe. Alongside her accomplishments, she was given the opportunity to present her award-winning project as a Game Changer at the National American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Conference in Washington, D.C., and at the ASLA Florida Conference in Orlando. Working with her faculty advisor, Professor Gianno Feoli, as a student, the project highlights the exceptional talent of FIU’s landscape architecture students in addressing critical environmental, social, and urban challenges. Since graduating in Spring ‘24, she works at Calvin, Giordano and Associates - designing sustainable public parks and spaces across the U.S. Without a doubt, Valeriia’s work is thoughtfully executed and filled with her passion for urban design.  We are proud of you Valeriia for this amazing achievement and wish the best for her future!
