With today also being #throwbackthursday I thought I’d post some shots from the first @worldathletics championship meet I covered, the 1991 world championships in Tokyo.

Back in the day, we didn’t have these fancy scmancy digital cameras that could fire 8-12 (or more) frames per second, and you couldn’t , as my friend @alishalovrich would say, #sprayandpray .

During the first months of the pandemic, I found some of the negatives and slides from Tokyo 1991, and scanned what I could.

I’ve had the great fortune to cover every world championships except one since making my debut in Tokyo in 1991.
