Home care is a vital service that allows seniors and people with disabilities to live independently and with dignity in their own homes. However, the shortage of home care workers in New York is a growing concern due to the low wages that they receive. This has resulted in 1 out of 4 people who qualify for home care not being able to find the care they need, and 3 out of 4 struggling to retain the care they have. Fair pay for home care workers is a solution to this problem and will allow us to rapidly expand the workforce to meet the growing needs of our aging population and those with disabilities who want to remain in their communities.

During our virtual roundtable discussion, we came together as personal assistants, consumers, designated representatives, advocates, and lawmakers to discuss the value of home care and how we can all advocate for a home care system that supports the needs of our community. We recognized that we are all invested in this issue as a collective team.

Home care is a crucial service that helps seniors and people with disabilities maintain their independence and dignity. By advocating for fair pay for home care workers, we can ensure that more people have access to the care they need and that workers can provide quality care without struggling to make ends meet. Let us all come together to support a home care system that serves the needs of our community.
