Gisèle Pelicot, whose ex-husband was sentenced to 20 years in prison after he admitted to drugging and raping her for nearly a decade and inviting more than 50 strangers to join him, spoke of her “very difficult ordeal” outside the courthouse in Avignon, France, on Thursday after her rapists had been sentenced.

Ms. Pelicot expressed “profound gratitude” for the support she has received from across France and beyond since the trial began in September, and said she had never regretted opening the trial to the public and waive her anonymity.

During the trial, Ms. Pelicot said “it is time for society to look at this macho, patriarchal society and change the way it looks at rape.”

Ms. Pelicot also paid tribute to those who supported her and to “all the unrecognized victims of stories which often unfold in the shadows,” adding, “I want you to know we share the same fight.” #france #women #giselepelicot
