🎄🎁 DEAD INK ADVENT DAY 21 🎁🎄

More favourite books from the Dead Ink team - it's Bekkii! That's me! I'm the social media guy and I also do all our liaising with bookshops, various marketing tasks and run the Patreon, as well as manning deadinkbookshop from time to time while drinking vast quantities of coffee. I spend a lot of time on public transit, love making stuff, and have a codependent relationship with my little grey cat (pictured). My book of the year is MAMMOTH 🏚️ by Eva Baltasar, translated by Julia Sanches

Baltasar's three translated novels form an interesting triptych: not a sequential trilogy in practice, but spiritually, all three novellas, Permafrost, Boulder and Mammoth, are stunningly acerbic works that deal with a common theme. Baltasar writes with real curiosity about what possible light there is to be found in this world from a failed generation peering through the lens of the next. Mammoth is about a 24 year old lesbian who wants to be pregnant and in seeking what it is to cultivate life, builds one entirely for herself. Examining all her deeply selfish impulses in neutral terms absolutely fascinates me. Julia Sanches' translation is delicious. The prose is lush and every sentence has bite. I adored every minute I spent in Baltasar's world.

You can get all three Baltasar novels from our good friends at andotherpics or pop into deadinkbookshop where I can force em on you. Links for the online shop in bio!
