You’re never too old to try something new! When bigskyresort invited me to partner up for a staycation, I jumped at the chance with an enthusiastic ‘heck yes!’—quickly followed by, ‘but first, I need to learn to ski.’ Big Sky made it happen, setting me up with rental skis and a private lesson through their Mountain Sports School. I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor than the legendary Curt Sundeen!

As a kid, I was a snowboarder until football took over my life, and ever since, I’ve been itching to get back on the slopes—this time on skis. It was incredible to finally do it and even better to share the experience with my wife, Chelsea. Returning to Big Sky after 20 years blew my mind; the new chairlifts and upgrades are next-level. While I’m not quite ready to ski down the Big Couloir, the scenic tram ride to the summit was breathtaking.

The adventure didn’t stop on the slopes. We rode the Ramcharger 8 to the top of Andesite Mountain for an unforgettable six-course tasting menu at Everett’s 8800, crafted by Chef Nathan Bramlett. Fun fact: Architecture Magazine named Everett’s the most beautifully designed bar in Montana, and it’s easy to see why. Before dinner, we explored the magical Enchanted Forest, which was included with our reservation and is also open to the public.

Our stay at the Summit Hotel made the trip feel like a European getaway, blending fine dining, stunning views, and cozy luxury. From a perfect 45-day dry-aged ribeye at Peaks Chophouse to après-ski cocktails at Carabiner and some much-needed hot tub time to soothe sore muscles, Big Sky exceeded every expectation.

This was my first time skiing, but it definitely won’t be my last. Thanks, Big Sky Resort, for an unforgettable stay!
