One of the most decorated Jewish Olympic athletes, Ágnes Keleti, was also the oldest living Olympic medal winner.

Keleti was born in Budapest in 1921 and won her first Hungarian championship in 1940. Later that year she was banned from all sports activities because of her Jewish ancestry.

Keleti escaped deportation to Nazi death camps by hiding in a village south of Budapest with a fake identity. Her mother and sister also survived, but her father and other relatives were killed at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

It was at the Helsinki 1952 Games that Keleti made her debut at 31 years old. She won one gold medal, a silver, and two bronze.

Keleti won a further six Olympic medals at Melbourne 1956, four of which were gold, to become the most successful athlete of the Games.

Keleti faced the worst in humanity, overcame it and became an Olympic champion, inspiring future generations. #MayHerMemoryBeABlessing 🕊️
