Late Night Fire: A Glimpse Into the Firefighter’s Perspective

Last night, just before midnight, A-Shift firefighters braved freezing temperatures and strong winds to respond to a residential structure fire near 20th and Poplar, in a reportedly unoccupied home.  Driven by the strong winds, crews found heavy fire coming from the roof in the rear of the house, as well as heavy fire in the attic.

An interior attack was immediately initiated, and a primary and secondary search confirmed that the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. 

This video offers a first-person perspective you will rarely see, what our firefighters see as they battle a house fire.  Their quick actions, careful decision-making, and aggressive effort are nothing short of remarkable.

Crews worked feverishly, pulling ceilings, searching for hidden fire in void spaces, and laddering the roof to reach the fire in the attic and successfully save the home.  While the house sustained considerable damage, the fire was brought under control in less than an hour.

No injuries were reported at the time of the fire, and the teamwork displayed by A Shift was outstanding. Strong work, team!
