We’re thrilled to launch our first faculty feature of the year with Dr. Jessica Symmes, DNP, FNP-C, a professor for the Honors Symposium course! Dr. Symmes boasts an impressive academic background that has driven her success in the nursing field. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in dance, a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on healthcare leadership and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Additionally, she earned a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Wilkes University.

Dr. Symmes’ dedication to GCU and the Honors College shines through her many achievements, including the Distinguished Alumni Award, GCU 30 Under 30 recognition, the Dean’s Award for the Honors, College and her published work in ProQuest titled “Direct Practice Improvement: Using the Re-Engineered Discharge Toolkit to Prevent 60-Day Readmissions.”

Passionate about nursing as a calling, Dr. Symmes is eager to share its transformative impact and the incredible opportunities it offers. She is committed to helping her students succeed in the healthcare field, serving as a catalyst for their professional growth. In teaching HON-110, she starts each class with a personal check-in to ensure her students feel heard and supported as they navigate their transition to college life.
