Our Most Interesting People of 2023 are taking the city by storm, leading in politics, fashion, dining, entertainment and more. They are the New Guard, and they are leading Cleveland into a bright future one day at a time. 

Jessica Parkison dove wholeheartedly into the restaurant scene and has never looked back. She co-owns Lakewood's Salt will Jill Vedaa and the pair is opening two new restaurants: Poppy on the East Side and Evelyn on the West Side. 

Laura Wimbels is well-known from her 2016 book Faces of Cleveland and since then, she’s become the regional Queen of Horror as Lenora, the writer and creator of Midnight Rental and formerly the co-host of The Big Bad B-Movie Show. 

Ismail Samad launched a restaurant in Putney, Vermont and operated a catering company on Martha’s Vineyard and co-founded a market in Boston. Now he runs Loiter, a social enterprise project creating an equitable future for his hometown.

Ashley Weingart helps lead the charge on nutritious, often medicinal foods to keep Clevelanders healthy and full through her company, Real Food Remedy. Her journey started after learning of the severity of food waste and malnutrition.
