Welp, at least I scored a pink cast out of this broken thumb!

It ain’t much in the grand scheme of things, but this was my Christmas present to myself almost four weeks ago. Having been through hell and back with a laundry list of injuries and surgeries, I laughed this off at first. But I’ll admit it’s been an annoyance and has thrown me off mentally. But it’s also offered an opportunity to practice the myriad of lessons I’ve learned over the years.

I originally was trying not to share it here because sometimes it’s nice to keep some of my life private, especially when I’m in the throes of it. But it’s pretty hard to hide a pink cast and I couldn’t keep my auto-reply up on my email past the holidays. 😜

Thanks to hestragloves for the dope, massive mitten setup. Hestra is headquartered here in Colorado for their North American operations, so I went into the warehouse and raided their boxes of singles from old sales samples. It felt like highway robbery to take scissors to Hestra’s to create some liner setups of varying warmths, but I promise they were just singles. It’s pretty special to have a sponsor for nearly my entire ski career thus far that has my back in a genuine way like that.

Thanks to salomonfreeski for being understanding and supportive too. They got their North American athletes all Blister+ subscriptions from blisterreview for the Injury & Accident Insurance component this past year. (Any sort of help with insurance for athletes is virtually unheard of, so that was a huge step and they were the first to do so to my knowledge). I was fortunate to have a healthy 2024 right up until the end, so it was overwhelming to have to pay my deductible via the break, surgery, and all the aftermath right before the new year. I’m still working through the rigamarole of insurance and reimbursement and such, but it looks like it’s going to shake out fine (hopefully 100% covered 🤞) thanks to Blister+. That’s a wild relief.
