Washington Commanders kicker Zane Gonzalez has been all over social media this week for his game-winning field goal during the NFL playoffs, giving the Commanders their first playoff win in 19 years! 

However, rather than the heroics of the kick itself, everyone is talking about his pre-kick routine.

Gonzalez has been open throughout his career about his struggles with OCD. He has discussed how touching his hair, washing his hands, and adjusting his shoes and socks are some of the OCD tics that he deals with. Despite his ongoing battle, Gonzalez has found a way to harness his tics into his kicking routine. 

When discussing his OCD in a 2016 interview with AZCentral, Zane said “It’s a lot of little things I do. My family knows little (motor) tics, and they’ll catch me doing it. For the most part, I’ve learned to hide them or make them casual. Nobody really knows. It makes you more of a perfectionist, which you need to be as a kicker. I’ve just accepted it and learned to make it a better trait.”
