Exploring Gaudi’s Masterpieces 

Today I explored two of Barcelona’s most iconic spots: Park Güell and the Sagrada Familia 🦎 

Park Güell was designed by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí. It was initially conceived as part of a housing development project by Eusebi Güell, a wealthy industrialist who commissioned Gaudí. The project began in 1900 but faced financial difficulties, and only two of the intended 60 houses were built.

Gaudí’s designs were heavily inspired by natural forms, and the park features organic shapes, colorful mosaics, and intricate stonework. The park was completed in its current form in 1914, and after Güell’s death, it was eventually opened as a public park in 1926. Today, Park Güell is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Barcelona’s most famous landmarks, attracting millions of visitors each year.

The Sagrada Família is an iconic basilica in Barcelona, also designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction began in 1882 under architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, but Gaudí took over the project in 1883, transforming it with his distinctive modernist and highly symbolic style. The basilica is known for its intricate facades, towering spires, and innovative design, blending Gothic and Art Nouveau elements. It is said to finally be completed in 2026, nearly a century after Gaudi’s death. 

From the colorful mosaics and whimsical designs of Gaudi’s park to the awe-inspiring details of the unfinished Sagrada Familia, it’s hard not to be amazed by the creativity and history in every corner of this city.
