On January 15th, 1977, 47 years ago today, Warner Bros. Records releases Ahh, the Name Is Bootsy, Baby! by Bootsy's Rubber Band. The band's second disc not only becomes the first P-Funk album to peak at number one on the Billboard R&B album charts, it also reaches gold status in the U.S..
Two singles were released from the album: the infectious ballad Can't Stay Away and the top ten R&B hit The Pinocchio Theory. The album's sales were bolstered by an appearance on the nationally syndicated series Soul Train in February of 1977.
The album proves to be so popular that the band graduates to headliner status, eventually becoming one of the hottest Black touring attractions in the U.S..
