In a ceremony held Tuesday in the large gym, senior Greta Carlson signed to play volleyball at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. She was joined by her parents, coaches and teammates with Coach Brodbeck and some of her fellow seniors sharing their love.

Carlson wanted to find a school that had a good engineering program and heard about Rose-Hulman from her mom because she learned that the school had a strong engineering program and that Greta had the potential to play collegiate volleyball there. Greta then started talking with their head coach, Rachel Delsi, and with current players to learn more about the team.

“As I got to know Coach Delsi more and I gotta know the girls, I was like, ‘This really feels like the right place for me,’” Carlson said. “Especially after my visits I clicked with the girls, I loved Coach Delsi, and I was like, ‘This is where I want to be.’”

Initially, Carlson wasn’t sure if she even wanted to play in college, despite her love for the sport, but after finding a program she really loved, Carlson knew that she really wanted to play and that she really wanted to play at Rose-Hulman.

Carlson’s mom, Hope Carlson said that Rose-Hulman was a good fit because she can balance sports and academics.

“Because it’s a STEM primary school, she can pursue engineering for her degree and still be part of a DIII sports team, so it’s really great,” Hope said.

Hope added that her daughter’s willingness to work hard is what brought her to this moment and earn this possibility.

“I love how much Greta thinks of others and is there for others,” she said, “and I’m really proud of her determination and willingness to go after her dreams.”

Greta said she felt loved and supported by everyone at her signing as they expressed their appreciation and excitement for her. She is looking forward to the new chapter of her life and to see where she goes.

“Having all these people there for me celebrating my accomplishments, it was really nice to see,” she said. “I’m just excited to grow as a volleyball player and as a teammate and I’m just so excited for the next [chapter], whatever it brings me.”
