For fans of the game, Bob Uecker’s passing has been followed by profound sadness. Bob wasn’t just a voice for the Brewers, he was the voice for several generations, and for the game as a whole.

Bob probably would’ve had a joke ready for everyone grieving his death today—that’s just the kind of person he always was. He never took himself too seriously or missed an opportunity to get a laugh out of people. 

Hearing Ueck call the game live on WTMJ was my favorite part about going to Brewers games every year. I would intentionally sit beneath the speakers to listen to his commentary and take in all of the amazing stories that he told throughout the course of a ballgame. That in itself was always worth a two hour drive to Milwaukee. Uecker was a living link to baseball’s golden age who was seemingly always young at heart. It was often easy to forget that this man was 90 years old. 

It’s really sad to lose another connection to the past, especially with all of the prolific losses the sport has experienced over the past year alone. Bob really was one of a kind, and was the perfect example of someone who lived life to its absolute fullest. He was Mr. Baseball.
