This Croûte au Fromage takes cheesy toast to the next level. Crispy bread, a splash of white wine, and caramelized onions all tucked under a blanket of melty cheese make this the ultimate comfort food. Add a fried egg on top for an extra layer of deliciousness. I’m using raclette cheese, but fontina works beautifully too!

Ingredients
6 slices of Raclette
2 onions sliced
2 tbsp butter
2 slices of bread (stale or toasted)
1 garlic clove
2 oz of prosciutto
¼ cup white wine
Freshly ground black pepper
Freshly ground nutmeg
Fresh thyme

Instructions
In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 400F
Rub the garlic clove over both slices of bread.
Place the bread slices on a baking dish. Sprinkle the bread with white wine. Arrange prosciutto om each toast. Layer the caramelized onions evenly on top of each slice.
Arrange the slices of Raclette cheese over the onions.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Season with freshly ground black pepper and a sprinkle of freshly ground nutmeg and fresh thyme.
Serve hot!
