Yesterday, 15 alumni performed at the inauguration as part of "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, including Benjamin Albright (MM ’05, trumpet, MM ’05, chamber music, DMA ’08 trumpet), Landres Bryant (BM ’10, tuba), Alexander Bullard (MM ’16, clarinet), Jeffrey Grant (MM ’12, clarinet and percussion), Jakob Lenhardt (MM ’17, clarinet), Lewis Gilmore (BM ’11, clarinet), Christopher Grant (BM ’06, clarinet), Joseph LeBlanc (BM ’03, clarinet), Connor Mikula (MM ’17, saxophone), Harry Ong (BM ’03, clarinet), Robert Singer (BM ’99, trumpet), Nicholas Thompson (MM ’18, DMA ’24, clarinet), Jonathan Troy (BM ’05, clarinet), Michelle Urzynicok (MM ’96, clarinet), and Kenneth Wolin (MM ’91, percussion).

Current Director of Bands at SMTD and former Director of “The President’s Own,” Jason Fettig, had this to say about the event: “Few events are more visible or symbolically important to our nation than the Presidential Inauguration. The Marine Band has provided the soundtrack for the national swearing-in ceremony for every Inauguration since that of Thomas Jefferson in 1801. During my time as Director, I was never more proud to work alongside the talented professional musicians of the band than on those singularly special days every four years. Now as the Director of Bands here at Michigan, I continue to have deep pride for the many SMTD graduates who are current members of the Marine Band and have been chosen to perform for this incredibly prestigious event today.  To all of the brilliant Wolverine-Marines of "The President's Own," Semper Fidelis and Go Blue!!”
