Hi everyone! My name is Nikki Keating, and I'm a fourth-year Africana Studies and Psychology double major. Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Athens Democracy Forum, thanks to the encouragement of Elizabeth Hamilton, Associate Dean at Oberlin, and the college's support in helping me apply.

This experience was incredibly meaningful as it allowed me to learn from global leaders and engage in conversations about democracy and activism, which are central to my academic and personal interests. My favorite part was participating in a discussion on freedom of speech and the press, where I gained valuable insights into how journalism can promote democracy by amplifying marginalized voices and sharing crucial information with the public. Meeting so many people committed to change was truly inspiring.

I also immersed myself in Athens' rich culture and history, visiting the Stoa and the Acropolis. I made wonderful international friendships and hope to carry what I’ve learned, along with these connections, far into the future. I’m deeply grateful for the experience and excited to apply what I’ve learned back at Oberlin!
