We’re excited to welcome visitors to two recently installed exhibitions.

“Inspirations: Global Dialogue Through the Arts” looks at artistic exchange across cultures as a form of trade. As global markets developed, producers of these goods adapted to the wants and needs of sometimes distant buyers, and local makers worked to respond to the beauty, rarity, and value of these imports with their own creations, creating multidirectional inspiration.

“Refiguring Modernism: A Fractured and Disorienting World” spotlights pivotal moments in figuration and abstraction in the 20th century. Spanning Europe, the U.S., Peru, Mexico, and China, this presentation contextualizes canonical figures in the history of modern art alongside those often overlooked. These works draw on related dark themes of experiences of war, trauma, mental illness, racism, and sexism, yet each offer an element of hope in their message.

Image descriptions:
1. Dreamy pastel colors of soft pinks, orange, and purple blur the background with fragments of floral prints and decorative ribbons collaged on top.
2. Two artworks are paired side-by-side, with their central, singular busts facing each other. The woman on the left has pale skin and orange-brown hair, wearing layers of colorful frills and smiling. The woman on the right has her long, dark hair drawn back; loose fabric, likely a robe, covers her form, and she holds a fan to the side of her face.
