The varsity boys basketball team completed a season sweep at Anderson on Friday night with a 60-40 victory against the Trojans that also allowed them to keep the Taco Shack Shields Collide trophy that they have brought home all three times the new rivalry trophy has been at stake.

The game also bought senior George McCoy a career milestone as he scored his 1,000th career point and then six more after that.

About four and a half minutes into the third quarter, McCoy was just one point away from 1,000. After an Anderson 3-pointer that cut McCallum's lead to six, senior Tommy Ammerman took back possession of the ball and passed to McCoy.

McCoy then dribbled the ball downcourt, avoiding two Anderson defenders before pausing to take a 2-point shot from the paint.

As the ball floated through the air towards the basket, the gym was nearly silent for a moment. When the ball swished through the hoop, however, the Anderson gym returned to its typical noise level as McCallum students, parents, coaches and basketball players erupted in celebration.

McCoy ended up scoring 22 points in the game to bring his career point total to 1,006. McCoy also scored exactly 22 points against Anderson in McCallum's first matchup against the Trojans this season on New Year's Eve, a game that McCallum won, 54-38.

In his varsity career, McCoy has averaged 20 points against Anderson.

McCoy said that having familiar faces in the crowd increased the excitement.

"A lot of the [student section] are my friends, so I've known them for a while," he said. "It keeps me intense. [Having] a lot of people here is fun, although I would've liked [the milestone to come] at home, but still I can't complain."

After the game ended, the student section stormed the court, surrounding the team as the Shields Collide trophy and McCoy's thousand-point poster were presented.

The Knights are now 8-0 in district, looking to repeat as undefeated district champs with just four games remaining in the regular season. McCoy noted that although he's happy to complete a huge achievement, his overall focus is on the season as a team.
