Without my hearing devices, I would feel a firetruck siren before hearing it. For independence, I use a vibrating alarm clock to wake up on time, to smoke alarms or alerts. But when traveling with friends - I always let them know how to get me up respectfully if needed!

Transcription: My name is Michelle and I am profoundly deaf with cochlear implants. 

When sleeping - nothing will wake me except for light or touch. So when I travel with friends I tell them - that to wake me, please come into my room,  turn the light on or touch my arm.
