MSCS Board Meeting Sparks Controversy

In the first board meeting under interim superintendent Dr. Roderick Richmond, tensions erupted over the renewal of City University School of Independence’s charter—a school with only 14 students.

🔹 Conflict of Interest Concerns
Dr. TC Richmond, president of the charter school, is also the wife of the interim superintendent. While Dr. Roderick Richmond recused himself from the discussion, he remained in the room, raising questions about board impartiality.

🔹 Public Speaker Removed by Security
During public comments, Damon Curry-Morris, who identifies as a person with disabilities, was forcibly removed by security after exceeding the three-minute time limit while criticizing district leadership.
He later told FOX 13:

“That shows a lack of compassion. When dealing with people with disabilities, you have to show compassion.”
