## Caption

At first I could only see what wasn’t there anymore. I mourned every single thing I remembered from the house, now turned to ash. Photos, football jerseys, yearbooks, family heirlooms— treasures I pictured giving my kids one day. But very quickly anything intact, or merely recognizable, brought a smile, story, and glimmer of hope. Because if even one small piece was able to survive this tragedy, then it must mean that we will too.
