📜 On This Day in Civil Rights History: January 31st, 1865

On this day, the U.S. Congress passed the 13th Amendment, abolishing slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. This landmark decision marked a pivotal moment in American history, reshaping the nation’s moral and legal landscape.

Though the amendment ended the institution of slavery, the fight for true equality continued. The passage of the 13th Amendment was a significant step forward, but it was only the beginning of a long and ongoing journey toward justice and civil rights for all.
